A visit to Co Loa Citadel is essential if you want to properly understand Vietnam’s history and culture. Co Loa (Loa Thanh) is a relic of the capital of Au Lac country from the 3rd century BC and the state of King Ngo Quyen in the 10th century AD. Currently, this relic complex is located in Co Loa commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi. The Co Loa Citadel is assessed by archaeologists as “the oldest, largest, and most prestigious citadel and the structure is also the most unique in the history of citadel construction by the ancient Vietnamese.”
According to legend, the Co Loa citadel has nine spirals of citadel, but according to archaeological excavations, there are only traces of three. Van Phuc Silk Village was formerly known as Van Bao, but because of the Nguyen dynasty’s cavalry, its name was changed to Van Phuc. By 1958, Van Phuc silk was exported to Eastern European countries and is now popular in many countries around the world.
